Sr. Facultative Property Underwriter - New York, NY
The Sr. Facultative Underwriter is responsible for driving earnings for the respective unit through new business development and client management activities. The successful candidate will insure a high quality of underwriting for prospective deals and a high service quality for existing accounts. Responsible for coordinating and sharing Industry specific knowledge and related underwriting know-how across the group.
Responsibilities for this position are as follows:
• Consistently identifies and analyzes significant exposures.
• Develop strong marketing relationships with clients in order to ensure a strong submission flow and high hit ratio
• Perform underwriting analysis for each facultative contact to be quoted.
This includes:
• Gathering data and information to perform all necessary analysis
• Assessing the quality of the available information
• Assessing the production source
• Analyzing the quality of the underlying insurance structure
• Analyzing and, if appropriate, proposing changes to the reinsurance contract wording, terms and conditions
• Analyzing the accounts’ loss history
• Analyzing operational, financial and claims audit reports
• Pricing of the reinsurance contract and documenting pricing analysis and expected profitability.
• Clear documentation of the recommendation and reasoning behind it
• Ensure compliance with the Facultative Underwriting Guidelines as well as Divisional and Group Guidelines
• Work in team environment and learn from and teach others about general knowledge of primary and reinsurance underwriting.
• Good understanding of profitability and financial analyses. Understands mechanisms of profitability (e.g. reserving, loss development, IBNR, earning patterns)
• Conversant with wide variety of primary products and underwriting issues.
• Understand and be able to discuss basic reinsurance coverage/clauses with clients.
• Solid understanding of SRA rating methodology.
• Capable of assessing and developing alternative ways of handling risks.
• Keeps “network” connections current. Shares market intelligence with co-workers.
The following background and skills are required:
• Minimum of 5 to 7 years in the insurance industry; some reinsurance experience is strongly preferred.
• Above average written/oral communication skills.
• Above average presentation skills.
• Above average negotiation skills.
• Some travel may be required for business reasons.
• Moderate to heavy PC use required.
